New HHC Board Members
The Hispanic Health Coalition Board of Directors would like to welcome their newest board members. Nancy Butte, Ph.D. comes to us from the Baylor College of Medicine. Maribel Robledo Sifuentes, M.S. comes to us from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Evangelina T. Villagomez, Ph.D., APRN, CCRN, CDE, CS comes to us from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Nathalie Folch, MD, MPH comes to us from La Rosa Family Services where she volunteers her time. We are very proud to have them on our board and would like to thank them for being a part of the coalition.

National Minority Cancer Awareness Week Luncheon
The HHC had quite the presence at today’s luncheon. Adela and Donaji exhibited on behalf of the HHC and promoted the HHC to luncheon attendees. And of course, our very own HHC Board member, Dr. Norma Olvera was honored with an award for her work in the promotion of healthy living in Hispanic and African American families with her BOUNCE program!

National Minority Cancer Awareness Week: April 19-25
The HHC is promoting and participating in several events of National Minority Cancer Awareness Week.
Health Disparities Symposium. April 15, 2009 – 2:00 -3:30 pm, United Way, 50 Waugh Drive. Guest Speakers:

HHC Officially Endorses H.R. 676
The Board of Directors of the Hispanic Health Coalition officially endorses H.R. 676, “The United States National Health Insurance Act (Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act).”
This bill provides all individuals residing in the United States and its territories comprehensive health care coverage. All medically necessary care would be provided, such as primary care and prevention, prescription drugs, emergency care, mental health and substance abuse services, long term care, chiropractic, hearing, vision and dental services. No deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance, or other cost-sharing will be required.
The HHC will also cosponsor the upcoming workshop on Health Care Reform which is being sponsored by Health Care for All Texas on Feb. 7 from 9a-1p at the Covenant Baptist Church on 4949 Caroline, Houston TX, 77004. Please consider joining us in endorsing this bill and promoting awareness about this most vital issue facing all Americans today.
