National Minority Cancer Awareness Week: April 19-25

The HHC is promoting and participating in several events of National Minority Cancer Awareness Week.

Health Disparities Symposium. April 15, 2009 – 2:00 -3:30 pm, United Way, 50 Waugh Drive. Guest Speakers:

  • Stephen Williams, Director, City of Houston, Health and Human Services
  • Dr. Herminia Palacio, Executive Director, Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services
  • Dr. Margo Hilliard, V. P., Harris County Hospital District
  • Dr. Lovell Jones, Director, Center for Research on Minority Health, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

Hear from the experts on the health disparities affecting our community and what each agency is doing to reduce disparities. Refreshments will be provided.

National Minority Cancer Awareness Week Luncheon. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the University Hilton, University of Houston.

Dr. Renu Khator, president of the University of Houston, will be the keynote speaker. One of the HHC’s own Board Members, Dr. Norma Olvera, will be honored at this luncheon for her work in the BOUNCE program. The HHC congratulates Dr. Olvera on her well-deserved recognition!
